Once gift cards are configured and enabled, it is beneficial to know how to manage gift cards. When a customer orders gift card, the order page for that order will provide a way to activate gift-cards. Obviously, do not activate the gift-card until you have received the funds from the payment.

Order Page with an Order Only Containing one Gift-Card (Notice the Easter Egg feature that is seen when the cursor hovers over a phone number known to be fake)

Notice in the "Ordered Items" area that gift-cards that still need to be activated will appear as below.

Ordered Gift-Card Needing to be Activated

Clicking on "Activate" will take the user to the gift-card activation page.

Gift-Card Activation Page

On this page, one can change the expiration date of the gift-card and add two custom messages to the activation confirmation email that is received by the recipient of the gift-card (a screenshot of the said email will be shown in a moment).

After activation, the page for that order will now show that gift-card in the "Ordered items" area like below.

Ordered Gift Card After Activation

For gift-cards, the "Seller ID" is actually the gift-card code. Clicking on that code after activation will take the user to the edit page for that gift-card (seen below).

Edit Gift Card Page

The edit page allows one to change the amount on the gift-card (one good purpose is for refunds), change the expiration date, and change who may use the gift-card (only the recipient or anyone). The person making the edits may optionally make a note concerning the edit (i.e. "Increased the gift-card amount to combine their multiple gift-cards into one").

The table at the top displays the history of the gift-card along with the notes for that activity.

Customer Side

It may help to understand the customer's perspective of the gift card management. This demonstration will show only a gift-card being purchased.

Gift Card in Cart
Gift Card Shipping

If only gift-cards are in the cart, then the list of shipping methods will look like the above. If both gift-cards and tangible items are being purchased, the shipping methods will pertain to the tangible items. The digital gift cards will always be emailed.

After the customer purchases the gift-card, then that is when the store-owner would see the first screenshot above. The customer will receive an emailed receipt for the purchase, seen below. The gift-card image seen in the below email screenshots can be disabled and/or changed in the gift-card settings for the store.

Gift Card Order Receipt

Once the gift-card has been activated, the customer will receive the below confirmation email. Notice the custom messages in the below email that were typed in the above screenshot for gift card activation.

Gift Card Activation Confirmation Email

When the customer is logged in, if they go to their user account and click "Gift Cards", they will see a screen like below.
