The coupon creation form is highly customizable and allows one to perform some interesting tricks. Obviously, the first four fields are self-explanatory, but the others (especially in combination) can be used to make some very interesting coupons.

Coupon Creation Form

Coupon Conditions

  • Start & End Hour: The Start Hour and End Hour fields can be used to make a coupon that only works between certain hours. This can be used to help attract more customers during typically low-activity hours of the day. If a coupon may be used anytime in the day, then leave these fields blank. If only a start hour or end hour are needed, then feel free to only use one of these fields.
  • Weekday: This field can be used to make a coupon only usable on a particular weekday.
  • Item Type: This field makes a coupon only usable on items of a particular type (this is the same "Type" seen on the add/edit inventory form).
  • Brand: If a coupon should only be specific to a particular brand of item, specify the brand here (case-insensitive).
  • Genre: This field allows one to help promote sales for a particular genre of item (whether the item be a book, movie, music, etc.). This field is also case-insensitive.
  • Item Condition: Coupons can also be made specific to an item condition (case-insensitive).
Create a Coupon for Comedy Movies

With the conditions seen in the above screenshot, one could make a coupon that only works on comedy movies. Such a coupon will only work on Wednesdays from 10am to one minute after 11:59pm (23:59).

Coupon Type & Discount

There are three types of coupons - Bogo (Buy One Get One X Off), Flat-rate, and percentage-based. Each of these coupons only work and apply to the items that satisfy the conditions created above.

Bogo

Bogo Coupon

Specify how many of the applicable item one must buy before getting the specified percentage off the price of the applicable items.

Flat-Rate

Flat-Rate Coupon

Specify the amount of currency that is taken off the price of the applicable items. This amount may be once or for each applicable item. One can also specify the minimum number of the applicable items that must be in the cart or the minimum total price of the said items.

Percentage-Based

Percentage-Based Coupon

This is just like flat-rate except that a percentage of the price can be taken off instead of a flat-rate.
