RSS (RDF Site Summary or Really Simple Syndication) provides a way for users to get updates on the newest products that your store offers. Instead of watching your site constantly, users that subscribe to your feeds can receive an instant notification that your store has a new item. Your store primarily provides RSS Feeds, but it also offers another type of feed called Atom Feeds. Some web-sites and software can also make use of feeds, which will only increase the number of eyes that see items on your store. For instance, forums and other sites that are fans of a particular category of items you sell can set their web-site up to display feeds from your site on their site.

Feeds are offered for new items, featured items, categories, and more. This allows users to watch categories or other product specifiers of interest.

== Feeds for Facebook Shop (GMCP) ==

The Facebook Shop and any other site that supports Google's Merchant Center Program (GMCP) can utilize feeds to display items on the Facebook Shop or any other site in question. However, GMCP requires a very specific type of feed. This particular feed can be enabled by going to "Store → Setup GMCP (Facebook Shop)" and selecting "Yes". Be sure to read the important information as this feature does require a monthly fee to generate the feed.

At the time of writing, this feature will create a feed with 2000 of the store's items. At some point, all of the store's items will be included.

The feed will only contain items that have at least one image. GMCP feeds will not support items without images.

This one feed can be used on the below listed stores. There may be other websites that support GMCP feeds, but these are the only ones we can verify. Bing Shop and Yahoo Shop might support this feed, but we have not yet been able to confirm.

To get free advertising for your products, go to https://feedshark.brainbliss.com/ and fill out the form. Enter the name of your store and provide a description (i.e. "Obtain hard-to-find and rare non-fiction books").

For "Blog URL", enter the web-address of your store (be sure to use "https://"). For the "Feed URL", copy-and-paste the text you entered in "Blog URL", but then append "/feeds/new-products/rss".

Next, check all of the boxes under "Services that accept RSS feeds".

If you have featured items, you could fill out the form a second time, but this time, use "/feeds/featured/rss".

As an example, if I were filling this out for chrislandsdemo.com, the "Blog URL" would be "https://chrislandsdemo.com" and the "Feed URL" would be "https://chrislandsdemo.com/feeds/new-products/rss".

Fill out that form again every so often. The frequency will depend on how often you get new items or featured items.

For those of you that signed up for GMCP feeds, you can also fill out the form for the feed URL "/gmcp". In the case of chrislandsdemo.com, the value would be "https://chrislandsdemo.com/gmcp".

== Image Loading ==

Many users have commented on the fact that most images do not load until the web-browser scrolls to that area of the page. That feature (called "lazy-loading") reduces the load on the network, servers, and the computer browsing the site.

Prior to this feature being implemented, each time someone went to a site, all of the images on the page would load (even for customers that came only to buy a gift-card or view some other page). Even for search results, all of the images would load even though the customer found what they wanted at the top of the results. Mobile devices using 2G, 3G, or even 4G would experience slow pages due to many images (especially large high-resolution images).

In lazy-loading the images, pages load faster for customers and less load is put on the network and servers. Plus, this also helps customers with metered Internet connections (charged per downloaded gigabyte or limited to a certain amount of gigabytes daily/monthly) not use up all of their allocated bandwidth viewing the store. Lazy-loading also allows stores to reach more potential customers since now people with weak and/or very slow Internet can access the online store.

Creating a shipping method may seem confusing at first, but after this article, most or all of that confusion should be gone. Creating a shipping method requires a few steps. This tutorial will start from the beginning starting with creating the shipping method, creating a zone, assigning geographical areas to that zone, and then assigning the shipping method to the zone. For this tutorial, I will make an international UPS shipping method for Central America as if the store were in the United States.

== Create the Shipping Method ==

First, go to the "Shipping Methods" Page and click "Add Shipping Method".

Notice that the form has many options. Shipping methods can be specific to a price range, weight range, category, and a specific postal/zip code. When a customer checkouts, they will see shipping methods that are applicable for the shipping destination, item price total, total item weight, and item categories.

When making a shipping method that is specific to a price range, one can create shipping options for expensive orders to offer shipping insurance. With the category option, one can make shipping methods specific to items that may need special shipping care (i.e. fragile items, items with lithium-ion batteries, etc.). As for the postal/zip code option, this can be used to provide an option for local pickup (among many other reasons that some stores may find).

The cost of the shipping methods can be configured based on the cost for the first item plus an additional amount for each item. Since actual shipping costs may vary based on weight and distance, it is generally a good idea to create shipping methods for different weight ranges.

== Create the Shipping Zone ==

Now that we have a shipping method for Central America, we need to create a shipping zone for Central America.

Create a name for the Shipping Zone (in this case "Central America") and click "Add Zone".

Upon clicking "Assign Shipping Methods" for "Central America", one will notice that the page does not list any geographic areas for the zone under "Geographical Areas within Zone". This brings us to our next step.

== Assign Geographical Areas to Shipping Zone ==

On the "Assign Shipping Zones" page, one can bulk assign geographical areas to a shipping zone or one can assign assign individual countries and states/provinces. In this example, the bulk assign will work perfectly (as seen in the screenshot).

As for the individual area assignment, one could select the shipping zone in the drop-down titled "Bulk", click the check-boxes, and then click the "Update" button at the top. Alternatively, one could select a shipping zone in the desired row and then click the "Update" button that is in that same row.

Assigning individual areas to a shipping zone can be used to create shipping zones for certain areas (like Asia, Europe, a portion of the United States, etc.).

== Assign the Shipping Method ==

Now that the shipping zone "Central America" has been assigned geographic areas, now we can go back to "Shipping Zones" and click "Assign Shipping Methods" for "Central America". Notice that the page now lists all of the areas belonging to this zone.

Near the bottom of this page, one will see a list of "Unassigned" Shipping Methods. These are the shipping methods that are not assigned to this zone while "Assigned" lists shipping methods that are assigned to this zone. Clicking "Add" on a particular row will assign that shipping method to the zone.

After assigning a shipping method, one will notice that there are arrows under "Options" for the assigned shipping methods. This allows one to control the order in which these methods appear on the checkout when the customer is given a list of shipping methods from which to choose.

Now, that the shipping method has been created, the shipping zone has been created, areas were assigned to the zone, and the shipping method was assigned to the zone, customers in Central America will now have a shipping method available (assuming that their purchase meets the criteria for the available shipping methods for their area.

When creating items and shipping methods, one will notice the use of a weight option without specifying a unit of weight. The options for the commonly referenced "weight" option can be configured under "Shipping" → "Weight Options". This page allows one to specify a unit of weight, set the default weight for items lacking an assigned weight, and more.

The appearance of product listing pages can be customized in several ways as well as the product lists (categories and search results).

== Listing Options ==

The first two options pertain to the lists of products. One can control how they are sorted as well as the number of items per page.

The last two options (the default no-image) pertains to any place product images are shown, but an image is not available. One can choose to display an image that indicates that no image is available nor found. If so, one can also upload a custom image to indicate this to customers.

The option "Display the Description and Details Together (i.e. no tabs)" can be used to disable the tabs that are displayed on product pages to separate the item description and item details.

The "View Count" for an item can also be disabled. It is shown by default. If it is disabled, the product views are still counted.

The "Display Currency after Prices (i.e. USD)" can be used to display the currency type (e.g. USD, CAD, etc.) after all product prices. For example, this can be helpful if the prices are in Canadian Dollars, but the customers are commonly using USA Dollars or Canadian dollars, so the ambiguity can be resolved.

The product image/images can be placed on the right-hand side of the product information.

Below shows two screenshots, each with all of the settings changed to the opposite as what is set in the other image.

Most of the fields for creating/editing an inventory item may seem self-explanatory, but there are a few fields that may benefit from some explanation and/or tips. There are also some special settings and features that may allow some store owners to complete very specific tasks and needs. Self-explanatory fields will not be explained since we do not want to put you all to sleep.

Also, with the many available fields, one could sell a variety of items from books, comics, movies, video games, computers, electronics, antiques, collectables, various physical multimedia (DVDs, records, movies, music, etc.).

* '''Seller ID:''' This is a unique ID for the product that also serves as the SKU. This field is required. A relisted product may use the Seller ID that it previously used.
* '''Author/Artist Name:''' This may seem self-explanatory, but there is a small hidden feature here. For stores selling items that do not have an "author" nor "artist" ''per se'' can type the name of the manufacturer, distributor, etc.
* '''Date Available:''' This feature is great if there is an item that is not to be sold until a future date and it would be convenient to create the item entry now. The item will be displayed and show up on searches, but it cannot be purchased. Customers can look, but not buy yet.
* '''Tax Class:''' Some items may have a different tax rate than the usual sales-tax for the shipping/buyer location. Choose from one of many tax classes that the store owner creates themselves on the tax page.
* '''Feature this item?:''' If the store has a "Featured Items" widget enabled on the store, the item will appear among the featured items. This is perfect for drawing the attention of customers to that item.
* '''Add Images:''' The feature to point out here is the text that indicates the max-file size. In this screenshot from a test/demo store, the max size is "2M" (where "M" stands for megabytes). Be sure that each individual image that is uploaded with the product is under the specified file-size. Otherwise, it will not upload. To get images within the uploadable size, try using image editing software to shrink the image.

* '''Description:''' This field supports HTML tags/markup as well as plain-text. HTML syntax errors will be reported on the top of this inventory page upon submittal. Such error messages will indicate the line number and a description of why the syntax is wrong.
* '''Keywords:''' These keywords are used by search engines, the store's search bars, and social media sharing. To make the most optimal keywords, try out some of the below tips.
** Do not include the title of the item nor the author. Search functionality (search engine's and the store search fields) will already know where to get the title and author.
** If the item is a book titled "Baking Cakes" and it describes how to bake a cake as well as provides recipes, some good keywords would be "recipes,sweets,diy baking,home baking". This will allow customers to find the said book when searching "home cake recipes", for instance. In other words, keywords provide special flags that can help a customer find a book if the title and description do not already specify those key/essential words.
** When making keywords, ask yourself, "If I did not know the name of this item nor that it existed, but I needed/wanted something that this item would satisfy, what would I type on Google or in the search box to find something like this?".
** Think of keywords like vague descriptors of the item. For illustration, if selling an art kit, good keywords could be "paints,artist kit,craft kit,crafts for children,art supplies".
** Another great use for keywords is general descriptions of the book. For instance, imagine a grandparent somewhere has a grandchild that likes books about military-style video games. If the grandparent types in "military video game", then items with any, most, and all of the keywords will more likely appear.
** If many products on a store have sentences listed after "Keywords", then there is the perfect opportunity to revamp the store and increase traffic by following the above tips.that field and revamp

The next area of the page has fields that are more specific to a particular set/type of items. One may utilize a combination of the fields in these different tabs to describe a single item. For instance, if selling books, one could utilize the Multimedia field "genre" to describe the book. This also allows one to search and find other items within that genre.

Under "Reports", one can generate tables and graphs that show the coupon usage as well as how much money customers have saved by using the coupons. The graphs and tables break up the data based on month and the specific coupon.

Select a date range and click "Filter". Then, data will be presented about coupons for that date range. In the below screenshot, one can see that coupons were used 45 times for the specified date range and that saved customers over $4K USD.
